Welcome to the EU official website of the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda.

Dear Ugandans and friends of Uganda,
Dear fellow Europeans

Welcome to the EU official website of the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda.

I started my duties as EU Ambassador to Uganda in January 2011. So far, I find Uganda; the country and the people very interesting and I am looking forward to many professional interactions as I carry on with my tour of duty. I also came to Uganda at a time the country is in the middle of an election period. While the European Union has an election Observer mission here, my personal impressions so far are that the process is proceeding smoothly under the rule of law. It is my hope that this remains the case until Ugandans cast their vote on February 18, and the days to follow until a new government is sworn-in in later in the year.
Our website is designed primarily to inform Ugandan citizens about the European Union's Delegation activities in Uganda and in the Great Lakes Region. It is also offers many linkages to other activities and presence of the EU in the world. Our work in Uganda is closely coordinated with our Member States particularly those having an Embassy or office in Uganda.

From the 1st January 2010, according to the Lisbon Treaty the EU Delegation assumed the local Presidency of the EU in Uganda. It means that we are tasked with speaking on behalf the EU in Uganda, reflecting common EU positions and spearheading EU values on Human Rights, governance and democracy. The EU Delegation is placed through my services, under the direct authority of Baroness Lady Catherine Ashton, Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (VP/HR).

The start up of the EEAS (European External Action Service) in January 2011 is meant to assist the VP/HR to fully carry out her mandate as defined in the EU Treaty. To ensure the consistency and better coordination of the Union's external action, the EEAS is also assisting the President of the European Council and the President as well as all the Members of the Commission in their respective functions in the area of external relations as well as closely cooperate with the Member States. The EU Delegation also plays a supportive role as regards diplomatic and consular protection of the Union's citizens in Uganda.

Uganda and the European Union enjoy a long standing relationship. Since 1975, Uganda and the EU entered in a solid and vibrant partnership underpinned by the Cotonou Partnership Agreement (ACP-EU Cotonou Partnership). We are natural partners. In today's world, it is very difficult, if not impossible, for one country alone to deal with all the global challenges in a successful way. Therefore we are ready to cooperate with Uganda and the East African Community to the deepening of our relations.
The staff of the Delegation wishes to contribute to this task and for this reason the staff of the Delegation moves around Kampala and around Uganda preparing, monitoring and evaluating the many projects of our development cooperation as well as interacting to know more and better this beautiful country and its people.

Our Staff is at your disposal to help you to better understand how the EU works, what it does in Uganda and in the world. Please browse our website at your leisure. Your opinion matters to us.
